IELTS tasks tell you what to do. If you miss the instruction word, you may give the wrong kind of answer.
Concept explanation
An instruction word tells you the action. It tells you to choose, complete, match, write, or identify.
- Choose: pick from a list.
- Complete: fill a gap.
- Match: connect two things.
- Write: put words in the answer space.
- Identify: find and name something.
Task
First, say one instruction word aloud. You do not need to Write the speaking part.
Then write one short instruction in My Notes using one word from the list.
